Less Is A Bore

We can appreciate a pure white, modern, minimalist space as much as the next interior designer. But our interior designers lean away from the “less is more” and much more towards the “less is a bore” interior design style. You can see a great example of this in the dazzling entryway pictured below from the recently completed Steiner Ranch Residence. We at Spaces Designed loooove color, texture and pattern!

Still not sure what we mean by “less is a bore”? Here are some more examples found on Houzz. These designs are bursting with visual interest!

Interior Design Reno: Good Bone Structure Needed

At our company, Spaces Designed, there are few things we love more than a good #interiordesign #renovation project! But one other favorite thing high on our list is real estate! We have often played a dual role for our clients by providing realtor and #interiordesigner services. This means helping a client find a house to purchase that has “good bones” as well as transforming the spaces into a truly functional home that improves their lifestyles.

In this award-winning Northwest Austin residence, our #interiordesigner helped the client recognize the “good bone structure” of the existing house. Starting with favorable existing conditions makes all the difference for a smoother #remodelproject. These before and after shots show just how much good #interiordesign can improve the aesthetics and functionality of a space.

Grasscloth Wallcovering: Not Just For Beach Homes!

When you think grasscloth wallcovering you might picture a beach front property with wicker and bamboo furniture, Hawaiian print upholstery and pastel colors galore. However, a new trend for grasscloth is using it to add texture and contrast in a variety of interior design styles.

Striped Spaces

Using stripes to add visual interest to a space is a great interior design tool. For the kitchen in this Austin, TX residence our Interior Designer thought the stripes on the island would be a chance to infuse the room with a contemporary visual accent; and make the island a feature piece in the space.

Here are some other great examples of stripes as visual accents. Sometimes the stripes are loud and proud; and other times they play a quiet background role, becoming almost a neutral.

No gray area here, it’s our Black and White Issue!

Somehow black and white adds a touch of luxury to almost any interior design scheme. The use of a black and white color scheme is a simple way to infuse rooms with a contemporary feel. Interior designers and lovers-of-design home owners can combine black and white contrast with pops of bright color and traditional lighting, furniture lines, fabric, wall covering or tile patterns. And voilà! It’s a perfectly sophisticated transitional space!

This is exactly the kind of concept our interior designers followed in this Austin, Texas residence which blends traditional furniture and lighting with some contemporary furniture and patterns in the tile and textiles. The black and white color scheme helps to bridge between these traditional and contemporary elements.

They are great inspiration for creative ways to utilize black and white materials, colors and patterns within your spaces. Enjoy!
